( Arms crossed and hands tucked into his sleeve, Tsurumaru smiles casually as he speaks. )

I'm looking for someone with experience repairing swords. 

( Yes, it's important to get right to the point. No one has time for long winded introductions and explanations! But he supposes an explanation is still needed here so he sighs, running a hand through his hair, pushing back his bangs and scowling just a little, )

I visited a local smith and they were too rough. It felt more like a punishment than care… ( Really! It makes him shudder just thinking about it and he touches a thin scratch on his cheek, ) Eugh. My face still hurts…

( If the smith was going to handle his true form like that, they might as well have just slapped this human body across the face. )

It's a delicate blade and this is a… ( Hm, he doesn't want to have to explain everything right from the get go so he tries to find the right word, ) personal request.

( It's honestly surprising how generous the people are in this world... He wonders how many of them are really human. But no, he didn't get beaten up by the smith! At least, not directly. )

Could it be because you're looking for a weapon?

( Why else would someone really be hanging around that area unless they were also like him and trying to get repairs. )

Nah.

( anything here that he could pick up he'd have to learn, train with. he's done some training, mostly with wooden muki at his dojang, but. he trusts nothing else as much as his own two hands and the beretta he's been carrying since afghanistan. )

Of course, being summoned can take some getting used to.

( He says like he has more experience than this. )

( it strikes him as an odd thing to say, as if it's old hat. given how outlandish this place has been from a to z, it honestly wouldn't surprise him to learn that people have been 'summoned' before, maybe to other places similar in nature or scope to this one.

of course, as far as 'but this guy is actually a sword' goes? he's nary the wiser. )

What, weapon-wise? Not so much. I'm a lot more comfortable with firearms, and those kinda seem to be in short supply.

Well, I suppose those are all the style these days. ( According to one very vocal sword back home, at least. Tsurumaru doesn't really care. )

I suppose I haven't seen many of those here so you must be limited. ( With the lack of bullets or shot or whatever they use. He's not an expert. ) Is it the only thing you can use?

( maybe it's the nature of this place. everyone's trying to scope each other out, either because they're on competing sides or because they — like sam — carry the expectation that one day they might be the man (or woman) on your right in a firefight.

locking the conversation would only seem suspicious at this point, so sam's response is an affable chuckle and, although tsurumaru can't see it, a shrug. )

That's not really the sort of thing I go into unless you buy me dinner first.

( which he hopes will be read as a i'd prefer not to discuss this on an open channel and not fuck off, i'm not telling you anything. he has the advantage on tsurumaru, here, having been aware of him without the reverse being true, and he likes the guy in that casual way acquaintances sometimes do. but. )

I've never done that before. ( Bought someone for dinner. Usually, food was always prepared for him by someone on cooking duty. Most try to keep him out of the kitchen if they can help it. He's a disaster at worst-- a horrible cook, someone who would certainly get someone sick if he was left in charge-- and at best, he's just a menace that likes to change the labels on every spice and sneak tastes of all of the food. ) It might be fun!

Ah, but if you disappoint me.... I'll make you pay.

( Literally or metaphorically, hm. )

( Dutch? As in that group of foreigners they sometimes ran into on missions near ports and trade posts? He really can't help but tilt his head curiously to the side. He doesn't... get it? )

It's a phrase. Means you split the bill instead.

( Not that he's complaining. It's nice to learn something new once in awhile! He doesn't get to do that much these days. )
