TEXT | open to both stars/moon
USERNAME: parker
( peter is Uncomfortable doing this. he tried desperately to change his username and nothing in his nerd brain and encyclopedic knowledge of coding languages has offered any respite from part of his name being attached to whatever he wanted to say. which means he has to be careful about what he says...
though, he's gotta ask, because he's gotta know. )
so, uh, quick q
anybody feeling weird? not... quite themselves..... . . . . since they got here
( that's it. short and sweet. hopefully it's vague enough to not indicate anything but still leading enough to possibly result in getting the answers he's hoping for. )

i don't want to do that thing where i answer your question with another question, but, changed?? is that what happened to you?
no subject
[ you know, just a casual callout. ]
I feel like part of myself is missing. Buried, and waiting to get out.
I've met others who felt the same way. Changed, like something was taken away.
no subject
ok, i don't ... i don't think i'm changed. it's more like when you leave your iPod outside and it gets rained on and now it can only play things at a whisper
not changed or gone just not like it should be.
no subject
[ ??????? ?????? ?????? rey's experience with rain is just as limited, but she can understand the process he's describing. like machinery doused in rain, sparking and arcing. ]
Like fried circuitry that needs to be repaired, then?
no subject
( HOW IS THIS BEING A """ZUNE PERSON""" A MORE REASONABLE CONCEPT TO YOU THAN GENUINELY NOT KNOWING WHAT AN IPOD IS??? i am disowning this child )
yeah. and like, maybe it can be fixed, and technically it works a little. kinda. just not how it should
no subject
I don't know what any of that is. Machinery?
[ TRANSLATION ERROR. ]
We can't break you open and look inside to see which parts need fixing. Sorry.
no subject
( c'mon there's barely any talk of strings and so far not even a single number. clearly he's speaking regular old english!!! )
fair enough. i appreciate that you are unwilling to try, actually. but since it's a metaphor i don't think you can crack me open to fix whatever this is
that said i don't have a more effective alternative at present

Galactic Basic Standard. What you're speaking right now.
It wasn't an actual offer to cut you open, by the way.
[ that cheek clearly fell flat. a valiant effort was made, regardless. ]
No one has any other ideas so far?
no subject
( that's it, that's the message, while his brain chews around the words. Rey's lucky this is text, otherwise he'd just be standing there braining that one out. )
galactic basic standard. okay. well, it's called english where i come from. and i guess that's not where you come from, hence, not knowing what zune is. i'd explain, but, trust me when i say you don't need to know
the general consensus is try and use what is missing and it slowly comes back. i cannot speak toward the credibility of that theory yet
no subject
Most of us, anyway.
[ but 'what' seems like a brain-break enough without launching into details about planetary systems and alien races, so she smoothly (not so smoothly) segues. ]
I can. Speak to it, I mean.
It hasn't unlocked much for me yet, but it stabilizes what this world left me with.
no subject
really? so it works?? that's... that's good news
( right? he can't decide. it was almost exciting to be normal, to be Free of Responsibility. apparently, it's more of a shortlived vacation. )

Is Queens in the Unknown Region?
[ more the point, no one would willingly visit it. she knows better than to expect it to be common knowledge, forgotten and left just as she had been. ]
Is it? You don't sound so certain about that.
no subject
( he'd certainly rather hear about Jakku than talk about his misgivings about his powers, that's for damn sure. )
it's... complicated
no subject
The technology is outdated, but it gets the job done if you know your way around the hyperdrives and components.
Nothing so outdated as the technology here, though, if you could even call it that.
[ that's all that can be said about jakku, unremarkable and easily overlooked. ]
What's so complicated about it?
I answered your question. A question for a question, right?

a tech graveyard for ships. what kinda ships?
( Peter is interested in technology so the place doesn't sound wholly terrible... though he'd change his mind fast if he ever spent time there. )
okay, okay. it's... things were easier, before i had stuff like this to worry about. if they were gone i wouldn't have to... but, they're not. so it doesn't matter.
( Responsibility is a bitch like that, you never seem to be able to escape it. )

Freighters, sometimes. Starships. But most of them are only starfighters left over from the war.
"Stuff like this." Is this not your first war?
Anyway, if you want my opinion, it's probably better that this place hasn't changed you.
Being defenseless like that would put you in greater danger.
no subject
( he can't really picture a junkyard of abandoned spacecraft. and not just because most stuff never comes back to Earth or explodes somewhere between liftoff and reentry. )
war might be the wrong word, but, it's not my first time being thrown in a fight i didn't ask for
yeah. it would. but there's only so much a normal guy can do.
( Peter sort of misses being normal, it's hard to not be a little disappointed that at some point his powers will return, and his Responsibilities along with them. )
no subject
Wouldn't that be primitive? I can't begin to imagine a world without it.
[ as for the second half, rey pauses. it comes in a separate message, no less idealistic and hopeful than rey herself. still, she has her own experience being pulled into wars, only to discover her place in it.
she can't imagine walking away from that. ]
Most people don't ask to be thrown into a war, or even a fight. It finds you. It finds you for a reason.
You just have to decide whether it's worth fighting. I would say so.
no subject
( the concept of being landlocked on your own planet when there are other planets and universes out there and for some universe there's a whole graveyard of spacefaring ships, well, it does seem limiting. )
yeah, i've heard that one before. ( and the whole moral responsibility to fight because he has the power to do a lot of good, yadda yadda. it's still a lot for a teenage kid to handle,Rey. ) i guess i'm still deciding as far as this place goes.
no subject
[ to be clear. much as she feels the need to rally others to the cause, concerned for this world and her own, that isn't her intent now. better than anyone, she understands that flavor of self-doubt and the need to express it. ]
You're not alone in that. We're all deciding.
You'll know what feels right.
[ easier said than done, but rey is forever the idealistic, even when it's tragically unrealistic. ]
no subject
( it takes a lot more than a pick yourself up by the bootstraps and do what you can peptalk to offend him. he knows the intentions are good, he's just Sensitive about Responsibilities, ok Rey??? not all of us immediately run head first into destiny!!! )
go with my gut, huh? well, luckily i'm pretty good at that.
no subject
Good. You'll be needing it.
I hope whatever you're missing comes back to you.
[ in time, at any rate. ]
no subject
thanks. i hope so too.
