voice; un: nancy; open to moon & stars
-- Hello? Hi. My name is Nancy Wheeler, and I have a couple of things I'd like to ask, if anyone has the time.
[ unfortunately, no matter how much research nancy's done on everything she possibly could, the idea of recording a voice message for an entire network of people to listen to is still a little overwhelming for her. she knows it's a useful tool, but she's from 1985, so. y'know. it's a lot. still! she has a few questions, and she's not going to let something like feeling intimidated by new, magical technology stop her.
and yes, she knows there are horrifying monsters running around at night, which is normally a fight she'd be running head first into, but she doesn't have her gun. guns just- aren't a thing here, as far as she's learned. maybe she should ask..? no. let's not go there, if she doesn't have to. ]
Has anyone had the opportunity to register and attend classes at the University of Terebellum? I've only recently arrived here, but I figure the best way I can help or contribute to everything that's happening in this world is to learn magic, so. I'd like to do that. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to go about registering for classes.
-- Or if there's anyone that would be willing to teach me on their own. I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm a quick learn, and I used to tutor my classmates back at school - [ wow, okay, cutting off that thought. how embarrassing. ] -- I just think it would be beneficial to form some sort of study group, for anyone that wants to learn magic, but doesn't have access to the University here just yet. I would be more than willing to set something up, but I just need someone to teach me the basics, first.
Any information on how I can go about learning magic, from the very start, would be appreciated - even moreso if anyone has the time to teach me, too. Although if there's something I could be doing to help that might be more effective than learning magic, I'm certainly open to that, too.
[ someone teach her how to fight with a sword, please. ]
Thank you.

[ like what, nance? you need to use your words ]
Like transforming your ..self?

You got it in one. I mostly go for animal forms at the moment but once I've mastered it I might try more human shapes eventually.

[ whhhhAAAAAAaaaaaAAAAaAaAaAAT okay so she was definitely ready to be laughed at, that was a reaction she was prepared to hear, but. that's. she was serious? okay. y'know what? sure. why not. magic is real, so why not people who can shapeshift into animals?
... still ]
Okay, um. I don't know if I'm ready for something like that just yet. I mean, maybe. But- No, I don't want to get ahead of myself. I think I would be better off starting with something like healing. Which also sounds completely insane, but - If it's real, if I can learn it, that's what I would want to learn. And then maybe, after, I could try to learn how to turn myself into a cat. Maybe then.
[ she laughs, because yeah, she definitely only said that.. just to hear herself say it out loud ]
Has it come in handy here? That type of magic?

Trust me, I totally understand.
[Nancy is where Sarah was at fifteen - bright eyed and excited at the prospect of magic. Hell if she was honest with herself, she still has a small bit of that inside of her. When Moppet rejoined with Sarah she brought back a lot of her old love of fantasy and fairy tales and she hasn't quite shed it entirely yet.]
I'm learning healing too but I'm not near as good at it just yet. Shapeshifting does come in handy though, mostly for traveling I've found. It's a lot easier to fly most places than walk to them, you know?

Did you start from scratch here, or did you have magic back in your world, too? [ and then, because this nerd thinks she's Very Clever ] Not that being an English teacher isn't a certain kind of magic, depending on who you're trying to teach.
no subject
There's magic back in my world but it's not the kind I myself have used.
[Or she doesn't think so anyhow. No one has explained to her the idea that force of will = magic in the Underground. Toby barely understood how it worked and he'd done a lot more with it than she had at home.]
So I wouldn't say I started from complete scratch but I didn't have much of a leg up here either. Just familiarity with the concept of magic being a real thing and not just something in fantasy novels.

But yeah, there's very little about this place that feels familiar. The fact that I'm not alone in that is weirdly comforting.

Me personally? I'm from New York. That's about as far as you can get from magical fantasy. ... Well, unless your magical fantasy is a whole lot less nature and farming anyhow.
no subject
My idea of magical fantasy is definitely less nature and farming. I'm hoping, hoping to go to college in New York, for journalism. [ a beat, a sigh ] Not that that matters much here. But if what they're saying is true, I won't have a world to go back to unless they figure things out here.
no subject
Journalism, hm? That's a good goal. Are you the investigative type?
[Maybe that's just a stereotype when it comes to journalists though. That said she sighs right along with Nancy.]
Yeah, unfortunately. I can't say how true that is but it's not worth testing if you ask me. If we can save this world, we'll at least be confident that our worlds should be okay. Probably.

[ which is why her tone probably sounds a little sarcastic next, even if it's not directed at sarah ]
Probably.
I'm honestly just hoping, more than anything else, that my friends and family don't think I've just disappeared. There's- a lot of that happening, where I'm from, and it was only once I got here that I realized they're going to think I was taken too. But I guess that's just more motivation to help make things right here, and fast.
no subject
[She pauses. Her voice sounded a touch unsure but her next words have some confidence to them.]
How much you believe that is up to you but personally I'd rather not think too deeply on what's happening at home. It's a sure fire way to get caught up worrying about things I can't fix for now.
no subject
You're right. I know you're right. [ huff ] So- I think maybe I'd like to take you up on the offer, to learn shapeshifting. It's totally not what I expected when I reached out on here, but y'know? I think it might be kind of perfect for keeping my mind busy. And if you want to learn other kinds of magic, maybe we can look into it together.
-- Oh, I guess I should ask which, uhh, side you're on? I'm with the Moon Temple.
